Ever imagined what the world will be like in ten years? Harvard Professor Niall Ferguson has drawn up an unbelievably descriptive future of what our globe’s socio-political and economic landscape will look like. In it, Germans are sunbathing while Spanish and Italians do the German’s housework and gardening. All momentum for reform in the Middle East and Africa has gone down the drain. Iran is at war with Israel and nuclear tension is at an all time high. Welcome to what Ferguson calls, “The United States of Europe”.

As students now, our careers and life paths will be close to taking full shape in ten years. All of these predicted events could have a severe impact on our futures.

Is Ferguson on track with these predictions? What do you think will be the most significant world event to happen in the next ten years? Is what happens in Europe of great significance to our future in the United States?
