Make the money, don’t let the money make you

Change the game, don’t let the game change you

I’ll forever remain faithful

All my people stay true

A great song from an underrated rapper.

As college students, we hear it all the time. “Do what you love! Follow your passion!” Every time you hear it from your professor, your advisor, or that kid who used to be your friend freshman year but who you now just awkwardly catch up with on your way to Tolentine, you get a surge of inspiration. A boiling in your stomach that is distinct from the boiling you get from certain Connelly foods. You always tell yourself that you’re going to do what they say, or that you already are doing it.

Step back and ask yourself to be truthful. Are you pursuing what you love? Or are you studying something so you make it rain on your Lambeau in fifteen years? Because honestly, I don’t know even know if i’m following my passion. I’m sure a lot of you are in the same boat. It’s like Noah’s arc in here.

Listen, there is a very slim chance that you can find a major area of study that you are 100% passionate about. But that’s not the point of following your passion. It’s about applying that study to activities and eventually life long pursuits that make you eager to wake up every morning. No matter what it is, doing this will make you money in the future. Passion=Hard Work= M0ney and Success.

Make the money, don’t let the money make you.

Are we as American students brought up in culture where we are inspired to follow our passions or follow the money? Do you believe people when they tell you to “follow your passion”?
