Underage ragers, think again if you want to follow your favorite libation labels on Twitter. The social network has just launched a new age-screening process for alcohol brands.
If you want to follow, say, Bud Light on Twitter, or for those among us who enjoy a crazier cocktail, Bacardi, you will receive a direct message that will bring you to an age verification page. You have 24 hours to verify your age, and if the requirements are not met (i.e., 21+) you will be unable to follow the brand.
Aside from the two aforementioned brands, Twitter has also partnered with Jim Beam, Heineken and Knob Creek.
I’m not really sure what purpose this serves – after all, if you really wanted to follow a brand you could just lie about your age. What do you think of the change?
